Agriculture in Finland
Due to Finland’s climate and soil, growing crops can be quite challenging. With its severe winter season and relatively short dry months, which are frequently interrupted by frosts, planting crops like rice and corn can be a difficult task to accomplish. As a result, farmers have learned to rely on crops that quickly ripen and are resistant to frost. Aside from that, they have learned to cultivate south-facing slopes and in richer bottomlands, so there will still be production even when there are summer frosts. If you visit Finland, you will notice that most farmlands have been either a forest or swamp. In addition, the soil was also treated with lime and has been cultivated for years to neutralise excess acid and develop fertility.
