This is the area of tranquil beaches, sand dunes, bridges, and lush pastures where the sea is touched by an unadulterated wilderness. Pori is famous for its annual internationally renowned Jazz Festival, which sets the town in upbeat mood for a whole week in July. It also has a fabulous beach called Yyteri. Kvarken is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage where land is uplifted as it rises up from the sea with an 8mm average every year. One can take a relaxing cruise from Kokkola in central Ostrobothnia to the lighthouse island of Tankar and the Seven Bridges archipelago. Oulu, the largest city in the norther Nordic region, is home to great shopping and an open-air museum. It is most popularly known to be Finland’s “silicon valley.”
